"Yes, there was something close to a massacre in those streets, with some of the units originally sent to clear the square of students turning their guns wildly on the crowds that had tried to block their approach. And to find out why the soldiers did such an atrocious thing we do not have to look much beyond those widely publicized photos of military buses in rows being set on fire by those protesting crowds."

This is what the Japan Time, certainly not a CPC-sympathetic outlet, wrote on the 25th anniversary of the facts of Tienanmen Square:

What really happened at Tiananmen?

I've seen quite a few posts recently about how ActivityPub clients or instance are blacklisting certain domains/pubs.

I can't help but feel like this violates some core principle of the "fediverse", especially when the goal generally seems to be to reduce barriers for user choice/adoption and not to create unexpected complexities and censors?

What do you use as your daily driver?
(Boosts appreciated)

It's interesting to see the application of "soft" state power with regard to exposure and criticism of surveillance and alleged war crimes.

Snowden has been memory holed, he speaks, but the western press doesn't publish what he ways. Except if he criticizes Russia or Putin, because that's useful propaganda.

We hear Assange Assange Assange. What a weird and unpleasant fellow he is. Classic ad hominem attack. We don't hear Iraq war crimes, illegal mass surveillance, backdoored apps&devices.

Ghostwriter is a lovely little distraction-free writing tool for Linux.

(Available on GNOME Software and the Pop!_OS store and probably elsewhere also.)

@Gargron Almost kid. Started strong but then went full on SJW weirdo. Let me fix it:

Remember that Gab is a sinking ship and they're basically grabbing onto Mastodon like a parasite in a desperate attempt to get attention from the "drama" as a fund raising scam.

We build free and open source software to make the world a more fair place for everyone and push back against the technocrats. Torba is a con artist and scammer who has some how blown $3MM without anything to show for it. #grifter

I'm not sure that's a downside for them. I just hope some decent content comes along with them to the fedi. Yeah, some asshole racists will be in that crowd (whom I'll block), but so will people that aren't assholes - sorta like FSE or any other "free speech" instance. Personally, I look forward to trolling the racist assholes in the crowd! 😂

French colonialism lives on in Africa

The CFA franc is a monetary union that subjugates African states to French economic interests.

@hedders @Gargron @j @LuigiEsq no, that's not a good idea.

When you restrict usage of your software, it's not free/libre open-source software anymore. You are violating Freedom 0: Use software for whatever you want.

Also it's legally hard and people tried that for military etc.
Generally, don't solve a social problem with technology like that. It likely won't work…

@Gargron Why should I? If no bad content appears on my mastodon I won't.

Yeah, heh, forgot.... Lots of wrong think... Can't have that! Let's ban commie instances while we're at it too... Fuggit, let's ban instances that allow statists. Down with wrong think!

Long Term Laptops

@felix sadly many Italians went to Venezuela in the years, joining the rich class and now they are saying to friends and relatives in Italy that Maduro is a dictator. We also have a meme about "Venezuelan cousins" to make fun of those Italians that mention their relatives in Venezuela as a reliable source.

This video is a few months old, but still it shows what the situation in #Venezuela is like. Poor people like Maduro because he actually helps them, while rich people ask for foreign intervention and imperialism so they oppress the poor like they used to.
