I really like #OSMAnd but oh boy, #Maps (f-droid.org/en/packages/com.gi) is really, really fast and slick. Both in rendering and navigation.

Not quite as featureful as OSMAnd though, I'll probably use both in the future.

(Update coming to your local @fdroidorg repo soon)

It'd be great if you could switch instances but take all your toots, follows and followers with you. I'd more inclined to move to another instance to lessen the server load on this main one if I didn't have to start over.

For all those having panickily migrated their projects from #Github to #GitLab to get away from MS: GitLab just started the process of migrating to the Google cloud (GCP). Which means it won't be available in some countries (Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria) anymore because of "legal restrictions", as #Google informed them. Hopefully none of the migrators lives in any of them: migration is running already, no access possible anymore.

Congrats! 😒

"NOTE to users in Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria: GitLab.com may not be accessible after the migration to #Google" - Really #Gitlab, you are moving to a platform which will cut off access for people in all this countries? about.gitlab.com/2018/07/19/gc

We're excited to let you know that we've update our new client and our new Android beta app! Now you can search in the app, use multi-select, and, most importantly: The app is now ready for @fdroidorg 😀

@aral The biggest strength of Nextcloud is that you don't have to trust anyone if you don't want to. Just run your Nextcloud in your basement, on your own NAS, in your organization...

We are pleased to receive a $400K pledge from Handshake.org ! $300K has been pledged to GNOME and an additional $100K has been earmarked for the @GIMP_Official. We are deeply thankful to @HNS for their donation to the GNOME Foundation! gnome.org/news/2018/08/gnome-f

I wonder if J.K. Rowling realised while writing this that it is the perfect warning about Silicon Valley, “the cloud” and surveillance capitalism.

Also, @apple, why does Siri play Turkish music when asked to play Kurdish music?

Is this a bug or are you making (a very misguided) political statement?

why is it that when I use a dark theme, firefox feels the need to make half the web's text white on white background?

Whatever happened to just using the css that's on the page?

Twitter was not bad because "hashtags this" or "trends that". Twitter was bad because:

1. Centralized.
2. They forced you to ID yourself with a phone number.
3. They hand your data to third party companies.
4. Most governments were using it to ID people saying bad things about them.
5. Ads and corporative campaigns.

Reclaiming RSS

“Before Twitter, before algorithmic timelines filtered our reality for us, before surveillance capitalism, there was RSS: Really Simple Syndication … As we move away from the centralised web to the peer web, it’s time to rediscover, re-embrace, and reclaim RSS.”

Remember the #Ubuntu 18.04 LTS default app survey?

This is the best response.

The beauty of Mastodon is not only that it is free and open but that it’s federated. You can fork it without losing access to the network or your social graph. There’s no reason a hundred forks couldn’t exist.

Also, when did forking become an insult? As far as I’m concerned, it’s the biggest compliment you can pay a project. And if you fork and stay federated, you’re actually helping to strengthen the fediverse!

What you can’t do is force people to build what you want out of entitlement.

We are pleased to announce that GNOME has moved completely to GitLab. This move will herald a new era in GNOME software development. See the news! https://www.gnome.org/news/2018/05/gnome-moves-to-gitlab-2/

Regarding #fdroid and #GDPR: You can find our terms here: f-droid.org/en/about/#terms-et

As F-Droid goes out of it's way to not only don't track you itself but also prevent others (apps, repo admins, etc.) from tracking you, we didn't need to change anything here. 🎉
