"NOTE to users in Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria: may not be accessible after the migration to #Google" - Really #Gitlab, you are moving to a platform which will cut off access for people in all this countries?

@aral The biggest strength of Nextcloud is that you don't have to trust anyone if you don't want to. Just run your Nextcloud in your basement, on your own NAS, in your organization...

I wonder if J.K. Rowling realised while writing this that it is the perfect warning about Silicon Valley, “the cloud” and surveillance capitalism.

Also, @apple, why does Siri play Turkish music when asked to play Kurdish music?

Is this a bug or are you making (a very misguided) political statement?

why is it that when I use a dark theme, firefox feels the need to make half the web's text white on white background?

Whatever happened to just using the css that's on the page?

Twitter was not bad because "hashtags this" or "trends that". Twitter was bad because:

1. Centralized.
2. They forced you to ID yourself with a phone number.
3. They hand your data to third party companies.
4. Most governments were using it to ID people saying bad things about them.
5. Ads and corporative campaigns.

Reclaiming RSS

“Before Twitter, before algorithmic timelines filtered our reality for us, before surveillance capitalism, there was RSS: Really Simple Syndication … As we move away from the centralised web to the peer web, it’s time to rediscover, re-embrace, and reclaim RSS.”

The beauty of Mastodon is not only that it is free and open but that it’s federated. You can fork it without losing access to the network or your social graph. There’s no reason a hundred forks couldn’t exist.

Also, when did forking become an insult? As far as I’m concerned, it’s the biggest compliment you can pay a project. And if you fork and stay federated, you’re actually helping to strengthen the fediverse!

What you can’t do is force people to build what you want out of entitlement.

We are pleased to announce that GNOME has moved completely to GitLab. This move will herald a new era in GNOME software development. See the news!

As F-Droid goes out of it's way to not only don't track you itself but also prevent others (apps, repo admins, etc.) from tracking you, we didn't need to change anything here. 🎉

"The average American worker takes less vacation time than a medieval peasant"
A very interesting read on how work hours and leisure time changed through history.

...I think maybe it's a bit too much biased against patriotism. I was surprised to see the test reporting I'm 52% nationalist!

I'm surely quite patriotic, I strongly believe in self-determination and local autonomy: what this has to do with nationalism?

My humble suggestion would be to differentiate between patriotism and nationalism, or maybe just reduce a little bit the points given on patriotic stances.

@RSI I think it's a fairly accurate test. I really find myself in the perfect balance between revolution and reform, I'm in indeed a communist, I hate free market and so on. But... but...
